Is This Right for Me?

Who is PathForgeXP for?

PathForgeXP is for fathers who want to deepen their connection with their children through shared outdoor experiences, and for men seeking personal growth, clarity, and intentional living. Our retreats are designed for fathers with children ages 12–18, and our men’s retreats and coaching are open to any man ready to do the work of showing up more fully in his life.

What ages are appropriate for the father-child retreat?

The Moab Journey is designed for children ages 12–18 accompanied by their father or father figure. Activities are adapted to the age and ability of each pair. If your child falls outside this range and you’re interested, reach out — we’re happy to discuss whether it’s a good fit.

Can I come if I’m not a father?

The men’s retreat (The Inner Forge) and Integration Coaching are open to any man seeking personal growth and intentional living — you don’t need to be a father to participate. However, the Moab Journey is specifically designed for father-child pairs.

What to Expect

What does a typical day at a PathForgeXP retreat look like?

Each day blends outdoor adventure with facilitated connection. A typical day on The Moab Journey might include morning reflection and breakfast together, a guided hike or mountain bike ride through red rock terrain, a midday rest and journaling period, an afternoon activity like river rafting or exploration, and an evening circle with guided conversation and stargazing. Every day is intentionally designed — there’s a rhythm to it, not a rigid schedule.

How do you handle safety on the retreats?

Safety is foundational to everything we do. John Bishoff is a certified Wilderness First Responder with over a decade of experience leading groups in backcountry settings. All activities are designed with conservative safety margins, and we carry a comprehensive first aid kit, satellite communication device, and emergency action plan on every outing. Group sizes are kept small (maximum 5 pairs for father-child retreats, 8 participants for men’s retreats) to ensure personalized attention.

What happens if the weather is bad during the retreat?

Desert weather can be unpredictable. We monitor conditions closely and have backup plans for every activity. In the rare case of severe weather, we adjust the itinerary to keep everyone safe while still delivering a meaningful experience. Moab is one of the most reliably beautiful outdoor destinations in the country.

Pricing & What’s Included

What’s included in the retreat price?

The Moab Journey includes lodging, all meals, guided activities, facilitation, and a pre-retreat preparation guide. You’ll need to arrange your own travel to Moab, UT. A detailed packing list and logistics guide is sent after booking. The Inner Forge (men’s retreat) follows the same all-inclusive model.

What’s not included in the retreat price?

Travel to and from Moab, personal gear (we provide a packing list), travel insurance, and any personal expenses. If you need gear recommendations or rental options, we’re happy to help.

Getting Ready & Booking

Do I need to be in great physical shape?

You need to be comfortable with moderate physical activity — hiking on uneven terrain, being outdoors for extended periods, and participating in activities like mountain biking or river rafting. You don’t need to be an athlete. We’ll send you a detailed preparation guide after booking that covers what to expect physically and how to get ready.

What gear do I need to bring?

After booking, you’ll receive a detailed packing list. The essentials: sturdy hiking shoes or boots, layers for desert temperature swings (hot days, cool nights), a water bottle, sunscreen, and a headlamp. We provide any specialized gear needed for specific activities. And, if you don’t own something on the list, we’ll help you find rental options.

How do I book a PathForgeXP retreat?

Start by filling out the contact form. John will personally respond within two business days to schedule a free 15–20 minute discovery call. From there, we’ll discuss which experience is the best fit and walk you through next steps.
